Must I take the Getting Started modules first?

While certainly not required, we definitely recommend it. If you struggle to get decent meals on the table on a consistent basis, it’s likely you’re missing some of the “getting prepared to cook” pieces of the mealtime equation.  That can happen no matter how good a cook you are.  The Getting Started modules provide you with a foundation for understanding and implementing those vital missing pieces and give us all a common language for future modules.

What if I’m just a beginner?  What if I know how to cook already?

The Cook Happy is perfect for home cooks from beginners to veterans. Because the program is online, beginning cooks can take their time with each class segment.  Meanwhile, longtime cooks are delighted to see how much there is yet to learn–and how much inspiration they stand to gain–by joining a class.  Plus, everyone learns about the 60% of meal making that most people are missing, regardless of cooking skill level.

“This is exactly the kind of program I was looking for”

Cook Happy | Live Healthy

Step by step guidance to a lifestyle of making and eating

real, healthy, whole food meals – easily, naturally, enjoyably

How’s your food life?

Need to eat better, but can’t make healthy meals show up on the table?

Confused about what healthy meals even look like?

Really want to lose weight but can’t break free of old cooking habits?

Overwhelmed with cooking and end up eating out too much?

Know you should eat more vegetables but don’t know what to do with them?

Simply bored, sick and tired making meals?

Then it’s time to

Step by step, get comfortable and confident making healthy meals you love

Cook Happy | Live Healthy®

I’m excited to help you tap into the health, comfort, nurture  and surprising joy and fun the kitchen has to offer

You know good food brings good health.

You've seen study after study confirming the benefits of a healthy eating lifestyle.  It can prevent everything from small colds, flus and aches and pains to scary diseases like cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer's, overweight, IBS, and thyroiditis.  Maybe you're experiencing a health condition right now that demands better attention to diet.

As importantly, you know a good diet also sets you up for feeling positive, doing what you love, caring for others, enjoying life and having the energy to make your best contribution to life.

But sadly, our meals seems to fail us in so many ways:  too high in calories . . . not enough good fats . . . too many carbs . . . not what your doctor recommended . . . not balanced enough . . . too much meat . . . not enough vegetables . . . too little protein.. . inflammation-provoking . . . too high in sugar . . . too processed . . .

Wouldn't you love to make meals that meet your good eating hopes and dreams?  Meals that nourish you and leave you feeling comforted, satisfied and

certain that you're taking good care of yourself?

You can--with the right meal making formula!

Does that sound strange?  What does a "formula" have to do with meal making? Simple:  A new and better meal making formula is the key to new and better meals.

Remember the saying about how it's crazy to expect change if you keep doing things the same way?  Ditto for meal making:  You won’t see the new, healthy meals of your dreams show up if you keep making meals the same way you always have.

That's why you need a new meal making formula.  The KitchenSmart Solution® is that formula. . . and the Cook Happy | Live Healthy program is the pathway to it.

What about the KitchenSmart® Solution is new?

The KitchenSmart Solution is unique in offering a holistic, integrated approach to meal making.   It is based on the premise that "there's more to cooking than just cooking." Most healthy eating and cooking programs limit instruction to the "cooking” part of meal making, i.e., what goes on in that narrow window of time when you're actually chopping, dicing, frying and mixing ingredients.

But that "cooking part" is only 40% of successful healthy meal making!  Fully 60% of meal making happens before you ever even walk into the kitchen to make a meal. Yet if you’re like most home cooks, you don't know about that 60%, don't know how to put it into place or just overlook it. So of course you won't be successful making the meals you'd really like to be eating!

Sure you might be able to make a good meal once every couple weeks, when company comes to dinner or occasionally on weekends, but that's not enough to deliver the powerful health benefits of a healthy eating lifestyle.

What makes the KItchenSmart Solution® new is this:  It gives you both the 40% and the 60% of what you need for 100% meal making success.  And the Cook Happy | Live Healthy program is the pathway to learn about those two vital concepts, the 60/40 Secret and the 100% Meal Making Success Equation.

Experience “Meal Making Transformation”

The mission of the Cook Happy program is nothing less than Meal Making Transformation.  No doubt you've seen dozens of other transformational programs to make your life better.  There are programs for almost anything you want to improve, from relationships and parenting to time management and career development.

What are classes like?

Cook Happy’s 60/40 Secret comes to life in classes:  40% of each class is spent actually "cooking," as in chopping, dicing, slicing and sauteing and making yummy dishes; 60% is spent learning about and doing the "getting prepared to cook" part of everyday meal making.

In other words, 40% of each class will focus on Healthy Cooking Building Blocks like:

The other, 60% of each class will focus on the “getting prepared” strategies–discovering what they are, what ones you are missing, and how to integrate them into your meal making routines so you can successfully:

Can you believe that there are many, many ways to make mealtimes better, and you’ll find them all in the Cook Happy program?  If you think there is no hope and no solutions for your meal making challenges, give this new approach a try, developed for busy home cooks just like you.

How do online classes work for teaching how to cook?

Technology magic makes online learning possible and effective for healthy meal making classes.  We employ  a variety of technologies to best suit the subject matter, from live video for cooking segments where visuals are important to PDFs for information you want to keep handy for quick reference and to podcasts for listening on the go with optional handouts for visual reinforcement.

All told, online classes offer the same depth and richness of our live classes but with several great advantages:

What kinds of meals and recipes will we make?

Past participants have been delighted and surprised to discover that healthy food can be so good.  And in case you're like most everyday cooks who are tired of making the same old things night after night, be prepared for some fun.  New foods and flavors bring sweet relief to bored and weary taste buds.  Our world of healthful food feature

Class was very inspirational. It got me to make tilapia, which I had always wanted to do.  I also got confidence to try more expensive ingredients, and use them successfully so I’m not wasting.

I liked your informal teaching style.  I don’t feel like just a student, but more a part of the action and I get to ask my questions.

Mary, Heart Healthy Class

I have only listened to one class so far, but I can already see this will be great for me.  I know I mentioned feeling pretty negative about cooking, but truly after the webinar last night I feel differently already!

I feel  excited, a little competent and I am filled with excited anticipation about what I can learn and do in this area of life where I have always (46 years!) felt highly incompetent.

Beth, Cook Happy, 2015

Meet Mary Collette

I have been happily educating and exciting home cooks for nearly 25 years. As an author, speaker, master kitchen organizer and one-on-one healthy cooking coach, I’ve worked and brainstormed with hundreds of frustrated home cooks.

The Cook Happy | Live Healthy® program shares the best of the tools, tips, strategies and resources I’ve developed over these years to help busy people like you make good tasting, good-for-you meals, easily and naturally.

More on Mary Collette

Healthy Kitchen Companions

I'm so relieved because Mary's not belittling me for being 48 years old and still not having this meal time thing figured out.  It seems like most people approach meal planning by opening the frig at 5:00 and saying, "What am I going to fix?"

When I heard Mary describe how her client did that, a light bulb went off for me.  "Oh my gosh," I thought, "Mary knows me and she doesn’t expect me to have this all together."  That was really nice.  I feel there is a place for me here and I'm not hopeless.

Regina, Cook Happy Program, 2015

As with all your programs, my response to the Cook Happy program is Bravo!! Even after just listening to the first class I was already inspired to soar!  Your humor, acknowledging the obstacles, and emphasizing the importance of thoughts were all wonderful and not things that are usually discussed.

I am so impressed. I can picture your program being the next one I see on PBS–you really are a pro.

Eileen Faughey, M.S., R.D.

Our classes have a simple objective: teach home cooks a few basic tools, strategies and perspectives so healthy cooking is fun, creative and entirely doable.

What Others Are Saying

“Class was wonderful. Even though I was a pretty good cook before, I learned a lot and have fallen in love more with cooking.    Well worth the cost.”

That’s right–for about what you’d pay to eat out a couple times, you can have everything you need to make your own meals.  No need to settle for meals that leave you feeling disappointed.  Once again, you’ve been tempted by a heavy, overly rich restaurant dish, and you’ve broken your good eating promises with too many calories, too many carbs, too much sodium, and one on and on . . .

Instead, easily, economically and efficiently make your own meals that taste just the way you like and that are exactly the kind of health-giving meals you want to be eating.  And you don’t have to face down the temptation of commercially prepared food that’s designed to be irresistible.

Of course there are many other hidden costs” that you can avoid or minimiz with a healthy eating lifestyle, think over-the counter medicines, energy boosters, medications, lost productivity, low energy . . .

Bottom line, it only makes sense to take this new approach to healthy meal meal making and eating.  Wouldn’t it be great to feel empowered and capable of positively contributing to your own good health?

Take Control of Your Kitchen

by Mary Collette Rogers

The Essential Guide to Organizing Your Kitchen and Time for Efficient, Successful and Healthy  Meal Making

Is this a diet?

No, the KitchenSmart Solution® is not a diet and the Cook Happy program is not a diet program.  Rather, the KitchenSmart Solution® is the system you need to help you do whatever diet or eating plan you want to follow.

Do you want to begin eating more plant-based, low-fat, Paleo, vegetarian, diabetes friendly, hormone balancing, heart-healthy, or some other approach?  But maybe you can't make those kinds of meals show up on the table for more than a day or week or maybe a month.  So your good eating dreams fade away and it’s so disappointing.

The KitchenSmart Solution® helps you develop the skills, tools, habits--the infrastructure--that supports you, so you can do your dream diet--and achieve the wonderful sweetness of good health and a good weight you yearn for.

A KitchenSmart® infrastructure is so absolutely critical to achieving your good eating hopes and dreams.  The benefits of healthy eating don’t come from an occasional healthy meal, but from regular, consistently healthful eating.  Only by shifting your foundational meal making habits and routines will you be able to support a lifelong transformation of your eating approach.

Parting thoughts:  “I'm not gonna lie . . .”

I received an email recently:  "I'm looking for a person willing to teach cooking to a willing-to-learn student? I think it is time I really learn how to cook!"  Of course I was delighted at this willing student’s interest and she was starting out exactly as she should, with a desire and willingness to delve into cooking.  And as with most students, three or four classes would get her off to a good start.

But only a start.

Learning to make meals and feed yourself well and deliciously is a journey.  Modern marketing wisdom would frown on my mention of this fact.  But I don't want to leave you with the unrealistic expectation that after three or four classes you'll be a kitchen star. As I said, three or four cooking classes will give you a start--a very good start--and then your journey will continue.

Now you might be tempted to feel discouraged and think, "That's sounds impossible then; I'll never make it."  I don't want you to leave with that impression either.

The happy truth lies in the middle.  Every step you take on the healthy meal making journey will yield wonderful rewards.  So you will feel encouraged and excited with each lesson, tip, trick and technique you learn.  As for the fact that there will always be room to continue journeying–that’s a good thing!  That just means your food life--and your life in general--will never be boring, but will be filled with new learning, new ingredients, new flavors and recipes, and exciting growth.

I have been tinkering in the kitchen for over 40 years and still continue to be amazed at all our wonderful food world has to share.  And the Cook Happy program will continue to grow with you into the future with more general and specialized modules around like Spicing and Seasoning for Flavor and Fun, Refreshing Summer Salads, Super Slow Cooker Cooking, What’s for Lunch and Cooking the Mediterranean Diet Way among many others.

I would love to have you join me!
