No Surprise There"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Week after week, headlines roll, announcing with great flourish how different foods are good for us:\u00a0 Acai berries!\u00a0 Kale!\u00a0 Blueberries!\u00a0 Quinoa!\u00a0\u00a0 I just read an article from the <a href=\"http:\/\/landanimal.wordpress.com\/2010\/07\/21\/parsley-the-forgotten-superfood\/\" target=\"_blank\">Land Animal<\/a> blog, describing\u00a0 the many nutritional benefits of parsley.\u00a0 Yes, you read that right.\u00a0 Even lowly parsley has now been recognized as a nutritional powerhouse.\u00a0 That&#8217;s what got me thinking there should be an article with this headline:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"News Flash:  Food is good for you\" src=\"http:\/\/i722.photobucket.com\/albums\/ww230\/mcolletterogers\/Food-Is_Good_for_You.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"288\" height=\"96\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sound odd and surprising?\u00a0 It really isn&#8217;t.\u00a0 Why wouldn&#8217;t <em>all <\/em>the fruits of the earth be good for us?\u00a0 They were <em>all <\/em>designed to be our nurture and nourishment, and our bodies were designed to put them <em>all <\/em>to good use.\u00a0 Just like every other critter on the planet, we&#8217;ve been given a perfect food source.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s actually odd and surprising is how impressed and awed we are when a &#8220;scientific study&#8221; discovers the obvious.\u00a0 Equally odd and surprising is that despite the obvious rightness of real foods, we knowingly feed ourselves food-grade\u00a0 factory products that bear no resemblance to what the earth gladly supplies us.<\/p>\n<p>Parsley is just one more example in a long string of evidence that the earth will gladly take care of us.\u00a0 All we have to do is eat what the earth gives us instead of sugar-laden, fat-filled, over-salted, additive-addled factory products.\u00a0\u00a0 With all due respect to all the scientific studies, healthful eating\u00a0 just isn&#8217;t as hard as we&#8217;ve been led to believe.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 240px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i722.photobucket.com\/albums\/ww230\/mcolletterogers\/Parsley_in_Jar.jpg\" alt=\"Parsley Bouquet\" width=\"250\" height=\"333\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">More parsley benefits:  It&#039;s always cheap and always available.  Keep  some on hand and store in a vase so it can double as nice winter greenery.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Another interesting thing happens as you begin eating consistently from the seasonal fruits of the earth:\u00a0 When a study comes out proclaiming the benefits of, say, beets, or celery, or millet or grassfed beef, the chances are good that you&#8217;re already eating the latest miracle food!\u00a0 You don&#8217;t have to run out to the store and e.g., buy a bushel of parsley then gag it down in smoothies.\u00a0 Instead, you&#8217;ve already been buying parsley every week or two, sprinkling it over casseroles for color, adding it to salads for flavor, or turning it into pestos (like the one in <a title=\"Recipe: Pesto with Superfood\u00a0Parsley\" href=\"http:\/\/cookhappylivehealthy.org\/blog\/2011\/01\/02\/recipe-pesto-with-superfood-parsley\/\">the next post<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shopping Tip<\/strong>:\u00a0 If you&#8217;re ready to start weaving parsley into your diet, try the flat-leafed, or Italian, variety (pictured to the right.)\u00a0 I  prefer it&#8217;s taste to curly-leafed parsley, the other main variety  available in stores.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cooking Tips:<\/strong> Wash parsley well in advance of using so it can dry completely.\u00a0 (I wash right when I get it home from the store, then let it dry in a colander for 30 minutes to an hour before bagging and refrigerating.) \u00a0\u00a0 Also, don&#8217;t throw out the stems.\u00a0 See how they are used in <a title=\"Recipe: Pesto with Superfood\u00a0Parsley\" href=\"http:\/\/cookhappylivehealthy.org\/blog\/2011\/01\/02\/recipe-pesto-with-superfood-parsley\/\">Parsley Pesto<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Come find out more about how easy it can be to eat in rhythm with nature, which is healthful automatically.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/everydaygoodeating.com\/whole_kitchen_classes_description.html\" target=\"_blank\">Whole Kitchen Cooking Classes<\/a> are all about learning to easily cook and enjoy the cornucopia of food the earth supplies us:\u00a0 from fruits, vegetables and grains to proteins, nuts, beans and all sorts of herbs, spices and flavorings&#8211;like parsley!\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/everydaygoodeating.com\/current_whole_kitchen_flyer.html\" target=\"_blank\">Next session begins<\/a> Thursday, January 13. <\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Plain old parsley is a super food?
