{"id":1278,"date":"2012-01-18T01:23:02","date_gmt":"2012-01-18T01:23:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cookhappylivehealthy.org\/blog\/2012\/01\/18\/the-imagination-healthy-eating-link\/"},"modified":"2012-01-18T01:23:02","modified_gmt":"2012-01-18T01:23:02","slug":"the-imagination-healthy-eating-link","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cookhappylivehealthy.org\/blog\/the-imagination-healthy-eating-link\/","title":{"rendered":"How Good Imagination Leads to Healthy Eating"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>It&#8217;s tough to adopt a new lifestyle if you can&#8217;t at least hold it in your imagination.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Unless something very unusual happened this year, a good number of us reiterated resolutions having to do with &#8220;eating better.&#8221;\u00a0 Would you like to end this year having actually taken significant steps toward a lifestyle of wholesome eating?\u00a0 <strong>Then commit to use your imagination more<\/strong>.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s the thinking behind this improbable connection:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 If something is fun, we have no trouble doing it, right?\u00a0 Think about the things you have no problem doing on a regular basis.\u00a0 Going to lunch with friends.\u00a0 Watching TV.\u00a0 Hiking.\u00a0 Spending time with the kids.\u00a0 Ordering pizza on Friday nights.\u00a0 Notice something about all these activities?\u00a0 <strong>They&#8217;re fun<\/strong>.\u00a0 And because they&#8217;re fun, they make their way into our lives pretty easily.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 So if good eating were fun, we&#8217;d have no trouble doing it regularly, right?\u00a0 Reaching that conclusion doesn&#8217;t take a very big leap of logic, but it may well test our version of reality.\u00a0 <strong>How many people really believe that good eating can be fun?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For example, a recent <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> article about online calorie trackers began this way:\u00a0 &#8220;Eating healthy can often feel like a chore.&#8221;\u00a0 The article writer cited no authority or study for that opening line.\u00a0 Presumably the chore-like nature of healthy eating is such common knowledge that it no longer requires substantiation.\u00a0 <strong>Hence the need for imagination<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We have been conditioned to believe that healthy eating is the opposite of fun&#8211;not to mention boring, tasteless and overwhelmingly difficult.\u00a0 Under these circumstances, it&#8217;s hard to believe that healthful eating can be a natural, easeful and enjoyable part of the day.\u00a0 But can you at least imagine it!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can you imagine, right now, that the world of wholesome, healthful eating is a world ripe with luscious foods, creative engagement, fun and friends?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Imagining doesn&#8217;t require any radical or frightful belief changes.\u00a0 Just a playful opening of your mind and heart to a new way that could open so many doors for you.<\/p>\n<p>So resolve this year to imagine&#8211;and see if reality begins to follow!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><em>&#8220;Your understanding will drop in as deeply as your mind is open to it.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">&#8211;Byron Katie\u00a0 in <em>Ode<\/em>, December 2011<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s tough to adopt a new lifestyle if you can&#8217;t at least hold it in your imagination.
