{"id":1975,"date":"2014-03-10T21:16:47","date_gmt":"2014-03-10T21:16:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cookhappylivehealthy.org\/blog\/?p=1975"},"modified":"2014-03-10T21:16:47","modified_gmt":"2014-03-10T21:16:47","slug":"grocery-shopping-steps-from-the-stove-with-a-csa-combo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cookhappylivehealthy.org\/blog\/grocery-shopping-steps-from-the-stove-with-a-csa-combo\/","title":{"rendered":"Grocery &#8220;Shopping&#8221; Steps from the Stove with a CSA Combo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m surprised at how little I must shop with everything I get from my CSAs (including frozen, canned and dried produce from summer excess plus a winter CSA that I&#8217;m still eating from!)\u00a0 When I need something, I just &#8220;shop&#8221; in my frig, freezer or cupboards.<\/p>\n<p>Also be sure to see<a title=\"Importance of Clean Meat\" href=\"http:\/\/cookhappylivehealthy.org\/blog\/2013\/09\/05\/good-meat-hard-choices\/\" target=\"_blank\"> the previous post on the importance of clean meat<\/a>&#8211;the kind you get direct from a farmer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Produce<\/strong>&#8211;comes from <a title=\"Monroe Organic Farms CSA\" href=\"http:\/\/www.monroefarm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Monroe Organic Farm<\/a>.\u00a0 Very reasonably priced, because it doesn&#8217;t come washed and boxed.\u00a0 The produce stores better and is cheaper if you wash your own.\u00a0 Small price to pay for the amazing flavor and abundance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fruit<\/strong>&#8211;I could also get my fruit through Monroe, but I don&#8217;t eat enough and enjoy buying it direct at the Market.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lamb and Beef<\/strong>&#8211;Also from <a title=\"Monroe Organic Farms CSA\" href=\"http:\/\/www.monroefarm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Monroe&#8217;s<\/a> I buy whole, half or quarters, depending upon how many people I can find to share.\u00a0 While all of Monroe&#8217;s meat is excellent (they also have pork), their lamb is stunningly good.\u00a0 I barely bother doing anything besides grilling or pan-frying; it needs nothing but a little salt and pepper.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pork, Chicken and Eggs<\/strong>&#8211;Ostensibly, I should be getting enough eggs to survive from my five hens, but they are too busy eating and getting fat, so <a title=\"Jodar Farms Chicken and Egg CSA\" href=\"www.jodarfarms.com\" target=\"_blank\">Jodar Farms<\/a> is my back up egg source.\u00a0 I also joined their chicken CSA.\u00a0 You would be delighted at how a &#8220;real&#8221; chicken tastes!\u00a0 I also buy part of a hog from Jodar and share with friends and family.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/i768.photobucket.com\/albums\/xx328\/drjohn_bucket\/hogs20for20sale.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m surprised at how little I must shop with everything I get from my CSAs (including frozen, canned and dried produce from summer excess plus a winter CSA that I&#8217;m still eating from!)\u00a0 When I need something, I just &#8220;shop&#8221; in my frig, freezer or cupboards.
