{"id":2463,"date":"2017-02-21T22:07:20","date_gmt":"2017-02-21T22:07:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cookhappylivehealthy.org\/blog\/?p=2463"},"modified":"2017-02-22T00:47:25","modified_gmt":"2017-02-22T00:47:25","slug":"diet-hopes-day-35-barrier-6-backsliding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cookhappylivehealthy.org\/blog\/diet-hopes-day-35-barrier-6-backsliding\/","title":{"rendered":"Diet Hopes Day 35, Barrier #6:  Backsliding"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>The Fine Line Between Realistic Goal Adjustments&#8211;and Plain Old Flaking Out<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2464 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/cookhappylivehealthy.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Fail-Backslide-300x251.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"497\" height=\"416\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cookhappylivehealthy.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Fail-Backslide-300x251.png 300w, https:\/\/cookhappylivehealthy.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Fail-Backslide-768x644.png 768w, https:\/\/cookhappylivehealthy.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Fail-Backslide.png 940w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 497px) 100vw, 497px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>What if I can&#8217;t keep up?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Is that fear lurking in the shadows whenever you get up the courage to try some new habit?\u00a0 &#8220;Will I just end up failing and kick myself for even trying?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>These fears sure cropped up for me as I faced one barrier after another in my quest to first break free of one unhelpful habit (drinking commercial nut milk with all its additives) and to then replace it with a healthier one (making my own, additive-free nut milk.)<\/p>\n<p>Even after overcoming the <a href=\"http:\/\/cookhappylivehealthy.org\/blog\/2016\/10\/28\/diet-hopes-day-1-getting-out-of-the-starting-gate-do-i-really-want-to-bother\/\">five big barriers shared in the previous posts<\/a>, Doubt lingered:\u00a0 Could I stay motivated to sustain my new milk making habit?\u00a0 Or would I eventually fall off the wagon?<\/p>\n<p>As it turns out, I did indeed &#8220;fall off the wagon,&#8221; technically speaking. Within a couple months, I was unable to make all my own almond milk and had to rely partially on store bought.<\/p>\n<p>Just as I was winding up to demand more and better of myself, however, I had a helpful realization.\u00a0 What if the scope of my goal was the problem, more than a lack of determination and discipline on my part?\u00a0 What if it was simply unrealistic to set a goal of making <em>all<\/em> of my own almond milk?<\/p>\n<p>When I set that goal, I didn&#8217;t know just how much almond meal the process produced.\u00a0 But I soon discovered the problem&#8211;and how hard it was to keep up with all the leftover pulp.\u00a0 What&#8217;s more, there are extra-busy times in my life where milk-making just can&#8217;t be squeezed in.<\/p>\n<p>So I made a &#8220;Reality Goal Adjustment.&#8221;\u00a0 Realistically, I couldn&#8217;t make <em>all<\/em> my own almond milk right off the bat.\u00a0 So I revised my goal to instead make <em>half<\/em> of my own almond milk.\u00a0 Even at 50%,\u00a0 I&#8217;ll still be way ahead of where I was&#8211;and I wouldn&#8217;t waste almond meal or stress myself out trying to make my own milk 100% of the time.<\/p>\n<p>Of course a little voice inside nagged at me.\u00a0 &#8220;You&#8217;re just making excuses and flaking out.&#8221;\u00a0 There is indeed a fine line between being realistic and making excuses.<\/p>\n<p>What do you think&#8211;did I make a realistic goal adjustment or really just flake out?\u00a0 I&#8217;d love to hear your opinion.\u00a0 Just leave a comment below&#8211;but don&#8217;t be too harsh!<\/p>\n<p>And what about you and your resolutions?\u00a0 Do you need to make any Reality Goal Adjustments&#8211;and do you feel they are justified or just excuses?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Fine Line Between Realistic Goal Adjustments&#8211;and Plain Old Flaking Out What if I can&#8217;t keep up?
