While many provide helpful information, <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><a style=\"color: #008000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wellness\/2023\/09\/13\/dietitian-instagram-tiktok-paid-food-industry\/?sponsored=0&amp;position=2&amp;category=fascinating_stories&amp;scheduled_corpus_item_id=597fb09e-a0c9-43f2-852d-fe73e32fea19&amp;url=https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wellness\/2023\/09\/13\/dietitian-instagram-tiktok-paid-food-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a recent investigative article<\/a><\/span> in <em>The Washington Post<\/em> found that:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8220;The food, beverage and dietary supplement industries are paying dozens of registered dietitians that collectively have millions of social media followers to help sell products and deliver industry-friendly messages on Instagram and TikTok.<\/p>\n<p>These influencers have been pushing &#8220;content that encouraged viewers to eat candy and ice cream, downplayed the health risks of highly processed foods and pushed unproven supplements.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So be very wary as you look for helpful health information to retrain your brain and develop a solid belief in healthy eating,<span style=\"color: #008000;\"><a style=\"color: #008000;\" href=\"http:\/\/cookhappylivehealthy.org\/blog\/how-do-you-start-really-believing-in-healthy-eating\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> as encouraged in the previous post<\/a><\/span>. Although influencers are required to clearly reveal paid sponsorships, many neglect to do so or their sponsorship reference is far from clear.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As with anything: Follow the money: Really who should you trust?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Someone trying to make a dime off your health by hawking some trendy idea that often caters to our less-than-best selves?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>&#8211;or&#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Someone who has no financial interest and only researches and shares information to help others achieve their best health?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Money talks&#8211;and unfortunately it is very often a lot louder than any of your good eating intentions! Pay attention to your sources.
