Want to Save Money?

With grocery prices front and center in the news, who doesn’t want to save a few dollars? Here’s a simple way to save both dollars and your health: Steer clear of the snack aisles.

In almost all cases, snack foods are highly processed (i.e., ultra-processed) and provide little in the way of nutrition or, more commonly, are health-damaging. (See “What a Coincidence!“)

Nevertheless, snack foods are one of the most profitable food categories, a sure sign we’re being charged a lot for a little.

And because they are so profitable, snacks are also one of the most heavily marketed food categories. No surprise, then, that 76% of shoppers include snack foods in their grocery baskets,* throwing away a lot of money on “foods” that don’t do what foods should do, i.e., nourish us!

Imagine not getting lured into the snack food money trap. How much money might that save? And how many health savings might we reap, too!
